IBS Diet

The problem with an IBS diet is there is no one diet for IBS that will work for everyone. If that were the case, surely there would have been a book written about eating for IBS, everyone would know what IBS recipes are good for you and what foods to avoid with IBS and no one would have a need for an IBS diet. That being said, there are "IBS foods" to avoid and from them you can learn what foods for IBS are alright to eat.

The main concerns when trying to figure out an Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet is that dairy products remain the number one villain. Known for being an IBS trigger food, they may cause gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation...and sometimes all in the same person...eliminating this food group as a test can prove the link between IBS and diet.

Other foods to eliminate in an IBS diet are gluten containing foods because they are also known as IBS trigger foods. The gluten containing foods to avoid with IBS are wheat, oats, barley and rye. Another food to avoid for IBS as you try to tailor an IBS diet would be fructose containing foods. A proper Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet would eliminate fruit, corn, high fructose corn syrup, all added sugar and the vegetables: beets, carrots, onion, peas, tomatoes, eggplant, sweet potato and winter squash.
