There are two ways patients describe constipation.
Constipation to one is only having a bowel movement every few days and
constipation to another is to have a bowel movement everyday, but it is very
difficult to pass. Either way, constipation can be painful, uncomfortable and
even debilitating.
Laxatives, enemas and medications are all typical traditional solutions for
constipation. Long term use may create a dependency that could prevent your body
from ever working properly on your own. More natural remedies for constipation
include less harsh herbal laxatives, but they may create a dependency as well.
One major dietary consideration for ending constipation is to completely give up
dairy products as they are the number one cause of constipation, especially in
children. Don't just give up milk when trying to get rid of your constipation,
give up any food made from cow's milk or that contains it.
Constipation can be caused by dehydration, so make sure you are drinking enough
water each day. Constipation can also occur if you are not eating enough food.
You won't have to go to the bathroom as often and it maybe harder to pass.
Try using flax seeds in your food to end constipation. Larger doses of vitamin C
might also be of assistance (in the 10,000 mg. range each day) as might taking a
supplement from your health food store called Magnesium Citrate.
